Your first visit

Nothing about your first visit should be a surprise.

Your first appointment is a private consultation and a full first treatment, in the same visit. Here's how to prepare, what happens in the room, and how to look after your skin afterwards.

New clients: consultation plus first treatment for $100 + HST.

At a glance

Four steps, start to finish.

  1. 1
    3 to 5 days before

    Shave the area

Then let it grow so we can see every hair.

  2. 2
    Arrival

Come 5 to 15 min early

Settle in on the couch in our waiting area.

  3. 3
    5 to 10 minutes

    Private consultation

We look at your hair and skin and talk through your goals.

  4. 4
    30 to 40 minutes

    Your first treatment

Most first-timers get a full treatment the same day.

Not sure electrolysis is right for you? Reach out to our team and we'll talk it through, no pressure.

Before you come

A little prep goes a long way.

None of this is complicated, and all of it makes your treatment more comfortable and more effective.

Skin prep

Shave 3 to 5 days before

We need to see each hair to treat it, so shave the area, then let it grow out for a few days before your visit.

Comfort

Numbing cream, if you'd like

Apply a thick layer of over-the-counter lidocaine cream 1 to 2 hours before, following the product's directions. Some products suggest covering it with plastic wrap.

Zensa, Dr. Numb and EMLA are available at Shoppers Drug Mart or on Amazon.

Pain relief

Acetaminophen, not aspirin

If you'd like a pain reliever, acetaminophen (like Tylenol) is the better choice because it doesn't increase bleeding. Avoid aspirin unless your doctor has prescribed it.

Fuel up

Water and food

Drink about 3 litres of water the day before, the day of and the day after. Hydrated skin is easier to treat and recovers faster.

Eat a proper meal before you come. Arriving full and hydrated helps you stay comfortable and keeps you from feeling light-headed.

Please avoidWaxing, tweezing, threading and sugaring, which pull out the hair we need to see. In the days before your visit, also skip harsh chemical skincare like retinoids, acids and peels, anything else that irritates your skin, and starting a new medication. If your doctor has prescribed something new, let us know rather than skipping it.

In the room

Private, calm and at your pace.

  1. 1

    We get to know you

We look at your hair and skin, ask what you've tried before and what you'd like to change, and answer every question.

  2. 2

    We choose your technique

There are three ways to treat a follicle. You don't need to know which one; we pick what suits your hair and skin.

  3. 3

    Your first treatment

You lie back under a magnifying lamp while we treat one follicle at a time. You can ask to pause whenever you need to.

  4. 4

    Your plan

We talk through what most clients experience for your area and set up your next visit, if you're ready.

Your estimate

How long will this take, and what will it cost?

Tap the options that sound like you. You'll see what treatment looks like for most clients with hair like yours.

of regular visits, then visits as hair grows in, up to month 24.

$1,500 to $2,000 + HST, Phases 1 and 2

Estimated cost for Phases 1 and 2 only, about 10 hours of treatment. Phase 3 visits are booked as you need them and paid per visit.

  1. Phase 1 · ClearMonths 1 to 4

    Weekly, about 45 min

What you'll notice: no difference in growth yet. This phase is about clearing the whole area once.

  2. Phase 2 · ReduceMonths 5 to 10

Every 2 to 3 weeks, about 30 min

What you'll notice: by the end of this phase, hair grows back slower, finer and less dense.

  3. Phase 3 · Live your lifeMonths 11 to 16

    As needed, about 15 min

What you'll notice: you're barely thinking about your hair. You book a visit as new hairs grow in, often a few at a time.

A rough guide based on what most clients with similar hair experience, not a quote or a guarantee. Hair responds differently for everyone, and we'd rather overestimate. You'll get a personalized plan at your first visit.

What it feels like

A manageable snap or sting.

That's how clients most often describe it. Exactly what you feel depends on the technique we use for your hair and skin.

Thermolysis

A very quick flash

A brief burst of warmth at each follicle, over in a fraction of a second.

Blend

A longer current, then a small flash

A gentle, steady sensation for a moment, finished with a small flash at the end.

Before we begin

We start low and go slow

We always begin with a small test area on very low settings. We only turn things up when your hair needs it and you're comfortable, and we check in with you along the way. You can ask us to pause at any time.

Aftercare

Looking after your skin afterwards.

We'll send you a full aftercare guide after your visit. Here's the short version.

First-visit questions

Still wondering?

Do I get a full treatment on my first visit?

Yes, most first-time clients get a full 30 to 40 minute treatment after a 5 to 10 minute consultation.

What if I'm nervous?

That's completely normal, and you're in good hands. Tell us at the start and we'll explain each step as we go. You can ask to pause at any time.

Can I shave right before my appointment?

Please don't. Shave 3 to 5 days before, so the hair has grown long enough for us to see and treat.

Will there be marks afterwards?

Most clients have some mild redness that settles within a few hours. Tiny scabs can appear on areas with coarse hair. Leave them alone and they'll fall off on their own.

Do I need numbing cream?

It's optional. Many clients like it, especially for the upper lip and bikini line. Apply it 1 to 2 hours before your appointment.

Something else on your mind? Talk to our team. We usually reply within 24 hours.
